CoQ 10 is a nutrient vital to the health of your muscles and particularly important to your heart.
CoQ 10 is an important supplement that is sold in two forms:
ubiquinol and ubiquinone. Ubiquinol is relatively new as a packaged product, but it has been researched since 1957. Ubiquinol is regarded as a more potent and highly absorbable form of CoQ10 than ubiquinone.
Ubiquinol is the reduced and active form of CoQ-10. It is the most common form of this enzyme found in human cells, tissues and organs. To benefit from the form of CoQ 10 needed to produce cellular energy and help you reduce the typical signs of aging, your body must convert the ubiquinone to ubiquinol.
As an antioxidant,
ubiquinol increases cellular energy. It is the strongest acting fat-soluable antioxidant and has the added benefit of regenerating other antioxidants.
Ubiquinol is taken as a supplement because the body's production of
CoQ-10 declines with age. Some reports say your Co Q10 level decline becomes apparent as early as your 20's. Food sources of ubiquinol do not exceed trace amounts. Your heart and liver have the highest energy requirements for this substance, so when your body makes a lower amount of CoQ 10, or you are on statin drugs which lower your body's amounts, these organs will suffer the most.
After numerous studies from China and Japan showed the medicinal value of
CoQ10 for heart health and brain health, U.S. scientists began to follow the lead of their Far Eastern counterparts and use large enough doses in their studies to show effects. It was determined that a minimum of 60 mg was needed to combat the effects of statin drugs, and 100 to 200 for the cardiac, fat burning, and energy generating effects. Neurologic movement disorders and mitochondrial deficiencies may need 200mg to 600 mg.
Vegetarians and Vegans are at highest risk for early deficiencies and most people begin to show signs of relative deficiency after age 40, no matter what their diet. CoQ 10 has been extensively studied in its role as a mitochondrial protectant since it is a key electron transport chemical, in the human energy chain.
