The latest development is a multi-species phytoplankton culture. Seawater is pumped in from the Strait of Georgia through an intake tube that runs out 1 km from land to a depth of 25 m. The cells are cultured in starter tanks (5000 L) and then transferred to production tanks ( 1 million L) Starter tanks provide culture for large-scale production tanks. After 10-14 days of growth in outdoor tanks using natural sunlight and forced aeration, the culture of marine phytoplankton consumes all the nutrients and reaches a density high enough for harvesting. These are dense blooms of diatoms with vigorous aeration.  With the appropriate nutrient recipe and constant aeration, diatoms proliferate.

Once the raw marine phytoplankton has reached full bloom and are ready for harvesting, we break the cell wall and extract the nutrients. Phytoplankton must have a broken cell wall, our bodies cannot digest the plant cell wall.

At the conclusion of each run of product, a full analysis is performed to ensure the products adhere to the guidelines for heavy metals, yeast, mold, bacteria and any other contaminants. Each batch of finished product is accompanied by a Certificate of Analysis.
