Longevity Warehouse Organic Ashwaganda Extract, 4 oz
Ashwagandha is one of the top ten highly-beneficial, adaptogenic immune tonic Superherbs, with a strong traditional use in Northern Africa, India, Pakistan, and parts of Asia. It has been used since ancient times for a wide variety of conditions, but it is most well known for its restorative benefits.
Ashwagandha: The Indian Ginseng
In Sanskrit Ashwagandha means “the smell of a horse,” indicating that the herb imparts the vigor and strength of a stallion. It has traditionally been prescribed to help people strengthen their immune system after an illness. In fact, it’s frequently referred to as “Indian Ginseng” because much like Ginseng in effect and effectiveness, Ashwagandha acts partly as a sedative, relieving the body from stress, while at the same time, boosting the immune system to operate at an optimum level (botanically, Ginseng and Ashwagandha are unrelated).
Ashwagandha contains many useful medicinal chemicals, including withanolides, (steroidal lactones), alkaloids, choline, fatty acids, amino acids, and a variety of sugars. Ashwagandha has been touted to increase stamina and relieve fatigue, speed recovery from chronic illness and slow the aging process. Ashwagandha may also contain antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antifungal properties depending on the part of the plant used (root, leaves, seeds).
In addition, Ashwagandha is also used to enhance sexual potency for both men and women. It is a highly beneficial, adaptogenic immune tonic Superherb!

Special Considerations:
Auto-immune Diseases: Auto-immune diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS), lupus (systemic lupus erythematosus, SLE), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), or other conditions: Ashwagandha might cause the immune system to become more active, and this could increase the symptoms of auto-immune diseases. If you have one of these conditions, it’s best to avoid using Ashwagandha.
Surgery: Ashwagandha may slow down the central nervous system. Healthcare providers worry that anesthesia and other medications during and after surgery might increase this effect. Stop taking Ashwagandha at least 2 weeks before a scheduled surgery.
Thyroid Medication: The body naturally produces thyroid hormones. Ashwagandha might increase how much thyroid hormone the body produces. Taking Ashwagandha with thyroid hormone pills might cause too much thyroid hormone in the body, and increase the effects and side effects of thyroid hormone.
