Xylitol looks and tastes like sugar. It has the same texture and sweetness, but is actually a unique non-glysemic sweetener with 40% less calories than sugar. Unlike other sugar substitutes, Xylitol has no aftertaste.

Xylitol is an effective sugar-free sweetener that is said to help diabetics and actually works to normalize blood sugar. Xylitol is a recommended sugar substitute for those on an anti-candida diet or for those with serious health concerns. Use it just like sugar, in equal quantities.

Xylitol was discovered in 1891 by German chemist, Emil Fischer, and has been used as a sweetening agent since the 1960's. Numerous clinical and field studies performed over the past 30 years have demonstrated the safety and efficacy of Xylitol as a healthy alternative to sugar and artificial sweeteners.

Most Xylitol products on the market are made from GMO corn. Smart Sweet brand Xylitol, however, is derived from Hardwood Trees and is Guaranteed GMO free.
